Tanzania health sector Mid Term Review

Jaap Koot has recently started preparations for the Mid Term Review of the health sector in Tanzania. IN 2008 he was team leader for the formulation of the Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSP III). The health sector strategy focuses on the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, especially with regard to maternal and child health. Although Tanzania has made tremendous progress, it is not likely that all targets will be achieved. The Mid Term Review will produce recommendations for enhancing the MCH services.

Jaap Koot works part-time as Project Coordinator at the University Medical Center Groningen in the International Research into Health Literacy among the Ageing population in Europe (IROHLA).

The Intervention Research On Health Literacy among Ageing population (IROHLA) focuses on improving health literacy for the ageing population in Europe. The project aims at improving the health literacy competencies through empowerment of individuals and communities. Furthermore, the project aims at providing innovative tools for communication between service providers and clients in health services. The IROHLA project thinks beyond the narrow concept of health education and includes the environmental, political and social factors that determine health literacy.

The project uses the knowledge and experience of other sectors, in particular the private and social sectors, that contribute to the social inclusion of ageing people. The project will work closely with all stakeholders in Europe.
